What are some online accredited schools that I can get a degree in Mathematics from? i want to get a degree in mathematics, online if possible but when it is time for me to transfer credits to get another degree I don't want to have any problems.
Online Mathematics Degree? Is there anyone that could point me in the right direction to get an online mathematics degree from a reputable university ,I am not interested in teaching math , just using in industry ?
Searching for an online degree / certification in Science / Mathematics? I've been searching the web but can't find a school that offers an online degree / certification in science (physics or chemistry) or mathematics. Most offer business courses. I've a AA degree in IT, and trying to make a career change, but I like to build a good foundation before taking any on campus courses. Can anyone suggest a good link?
BSc Mathematics or BSc Physical Science online degree? Is there any institute around the world that offers purely Bachelor Degree in Mathematics or Physical Science or Maths/Physics degree by purely online studies? Open University UK ( Britain) is by far the best, no entry requirements and easy to enroll and highly regarded around the world and recognised ( Leads to honours ) Ellis New York City NIT looks good too but confusing. Anywhere else that offers above mentioned subjects as a Distant Learning or Online Bachelor Degree? ( has to be accredited) Not looking for links unless you have the direct link to above mentioned subjects and not interested in single "courses" Thank you so much
What types of engineering jobs are available to someone with a degree in mathematics? I've read online that with a degree in mathematics you have tons of career opportunities, but although math is the core of engineering I'm unsure of exactly how someone with a general bachelors math degree would enter into the engineering field? Would you need to have a specialized option towards engineering (which would possibly close off other career opportunities), or would the general degree be enough in itself?
Is getting a degree online a good idea? I am debating getting a teaching credential. Currently I am living in Asia. It would convenient for me to do it online and remain in Asia. I am thinking it would be better to be in the traditional classroom though. What do you think? By the way I already have a BA degree. Also, would you say, the teaching sector is good to be in these days or not? I am considering teaching Mathematics. Thanks
Is it possible to complete an online math degree while a Navy Nuke? After the schooling years could I obtain my degree two years later by doing school full time while working as a Nuke? I really want a degree but also need money ASAP so I am considering this route because I can become a Nuke officer with a mathematics degree. University of Illinois offers a math degree completely online after you complete gen. ed requirements and maths up to Calculus 3. I just wonder how it will go. I know I can take math classes online but I'm thinking about the required sciences. Yes, I have an acceptable ASVAP score to qualify for Nuke. The recruiter brought it to my attention. After two years of training will they give me two plus to obtain a bachelors? And I will owe them... how many years? Thanks for the responses. I may consider trying to become a translator/interpretor/linguist.
I am looking for an online part time teaching job. Am currently in IIT Delhi doing my bachelor's degree? I am looking for an online part time Mathematics and Science Teaching job. I am in IIT Delhi which is one of the best institutes in the country. I am in my third year of Mechanical Engineering.
Distance learning/online degree program resources: are there any decent ones? I've been looking around, and have had very little luck in finding any sort of resource for finding out what universities offer distance learning degree programs, esp. in the sciences. Most of them seem to be firmly in the pockets of the big online degree mills, such as Phoenix and Strayer Universities, and have been of no real use. Do to my professional career, the more traditional degree programs just aren't an option, and so far have only found one university in the US that offers a BS in Mathematics via distance learning (Chadron State College), so posting here in hopes someone can either direct me to a good search engine for this, or perhaps even give pointers to specific universities.
Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Secondary Teachers from Grand Canyon University? I'm currently looking for the best way to become a highschool math teacher in KS and found a online program at Grand Canyon University I'm would like to know more about it and to have anyones opinion on it. If anyone knows of anyother places with an online degree that would be of help to me that would be great as well...
Any one ever done online college classes? I'm going to be completing my teaching degree though an online course through UW-Superior. I've never taken an online class, and I'm really nervous about it. Has anyone completed their degree this way? Was it very difficult? I'm going be be juggling two part-time jobs (one in my home), a family, and college. I want to do well in school (I've always gotten A's and B's before), but I don't want to put too much pressure on myself since grades aren't everything. I've had people tell me online courses are tougher than regular courses. The one I'm really concerned about this semester is my Mathematics class for Elementary School Teachers. Math is not my strong suit, and I looked over the 1st chapter, and I'm already confused. Any reassurance would be great! Previous experience with online college classes would be a plus.
Are online masters degrees worth it? I am about to graduate with a BS in Engineering Management, Information Systems and a BS in Mathematics. I am really interested in entrepreneurship and want to eventually go to graduate school. However, considering this day and age, I'd really like to customize my schedule and possibly take online classes to complete an online masters degree, but I'm not sure if its worth it. I am afraid that it will be looked down upon by future employers. Is this true? Help!
What is Math 101 ( Mathematics for Liberal Arts) about? What topics does it cover? I can't find a course description at the college website. Here's there website: http://www.regent.edu/acad/undergrad/academics/degree/associates/general_studies/ This is for the Associate of Arts in General Studies online degree.

i would like to do a degree in financial analysis online.any websites you could advise me? i am 24 and currently a medical student in romania.i love mathematics and i would like to become a financial analyst.my dad does not want to pay for the maths univ.i can understand him...its not easy to pay one faculty...;let alone two.i have decided to save my pocket money to do my bsc in maths and then financial analysis.my dream is to become a great surgeon and give free treatment to people.but i would like to launch myself in business.could you please give some websites or advice on how to proceed.i checked the uk universities and they are far too expensive. thank you very much
Should I work for another Bachelor's Degree or a Masters' Degree? I have a BS in Mathematics and am interested in getting a degree in some sort of Computer Science (CS). I have a decent understanding of programming, databases, and design patterns but have never actually taken any CS related classes (I started teaching myself programming when I was 10). I want to get the degree so I can increase my knowledge of CS and so I can actually be considered for programming-type jobs. I want to get an online degree so I can continue to work while earning the degree. My problem is that since I've never actually taken any Computer Science classes, it seems that all the online universities I've checked won't accept me for a Masters' program since I don't come close to meeting the prerequisites for their M.C.S. programs. So I'm starting to wonder if I should just bite the bullet and work towards a Bachelor's in CS before moving onto a M.C.S. I would like to know if, in general, I would only need to take the 30-40 credits needed for the core of most CS degrees since I already have a Bachelor's Degree, or will I need to take more then just the core (excluding pre-reqs)? Also, does anyone know of an online M.C.S. program that I may be able to "test into" with only having a BS in Math and no CS classes? Finally, other than the knowledge gained from taking the classes, is a second Bachelor's degree even worth it, or should I hold out for a Masters' program that will accept me? Thank you all for your time and responses! Matt
Experience with validity of online for-profit degrees? I work for a financial company in San Francisco (Franklin Templeton) and I'm hiring for an info systems manager position within our company. We have narrowed the candidates down to two for the middle-management position but I have a questions about the validity of online degrees because one of the two candidates went to college online. The position pays close to six figures so we really want to make the right decision before we invest those resources. Here are the candidate breakdowns: Candidate #1 Argosy University (Atlanta, GA) - B.S. Business Administration DeVry University (Nashville, TN) - M.I.S.M. Data Administration and Management University of Phoenix (Atlanta, GA) - M.B.A. Global Management -fresh out of MBA program and has 3 years experience as an IT Coordinator for Ernst & Young -M.I.S.M. stands for Masters in Info Systems Management FYI -Worked for Geek Squad at a Best Buy in Atlanta before Argosy Candidate #2 Santa Clara University - B.S. Economics and Mathematics University of California-Santa Barbara - M.A. Economics Stanford University - M.B.A. (not kidding) -Worked as a financial consultant before MBA for 4 years -Worked as a hedge fund analyst after MBA for one year -Fund went under in 2008 and he has been unemployed since -No IT management experience (although plenty of programming experience) -Focused on management and accounting at Stanford So as you can see I'm in quite a predicament. Candidate #1 is clearly more qualified in terms of experience and educational focus but those online degrees make me wonder. A Stanford degree is hard to pass up but candidate #2 just doesn't have the experience and background of #1. What would you do in this situation and have you ever hired someone with an online degree? If so, was the employee competent?

Question about online courses? i want to take online courses in science and mathematics so that i have better opportunities to become a biologist or physicist later, but i can't really find a university that offers them. i don't want to live on campus anywhere, i just want online courses, does anybody know of anywhere that offers a degree in either physics or mathematics [statistics]? preferably in both....
Where to join as an online teacher? I am a third year student from electronics and telecommunication engineering. I am interested in teaching Mathematics as a part time teacher. I do not have any degrees ( like bachelor or Masters or Doctorate),but I still have good command on maths. I can teach Algebra and Pre Calculus. -Thank you.
How Much Do Teachers Get Paid For Summer School? Funny thing is no-one will give me a straight answer. I had a young teacher tell me this is "the last year she will be teaching summer school cause her student loans are finally paid" I am entering university next year with the intention of pursuing a BEd / BSc combined degree and becoming a mathematics teacher in secondarty school. Although I looked up the pay online with my city's board, but it doesn't disclose summer school $$. I am just asking for current/future teachers to tell me about summer school pay and your experiances with it. I live in Alberta Canada, and the pay for an entering teacher is $49 719 if that is of importance (maybe its a percentage??) Its a high school and summer school is one class for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, for just under 2 months. Thanks in advance for any help.
Charter Oak online college? Does anyone have any info or experiences with them? I would like a degree in mathematics and they are the only place I could find that had a concentration on that subject.
Mathematics As A Profession? Dear Math Teachers: I was born in the Dominican Republic but raised in New York City. I want to share my story and passion with you which includes mathematics. I attended several CUNY colleges in the NYC area and earned two degrees: (1) A.A. in Liberal Arts and B.A. in Sociology. However, my true and only passion has been the world of numbers. I love algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus very much. So, what is the problem? I want to return to school. The practical avenue for me to travel would be to enroll in graduate school in the field of sociology. It makes sense since I already have a B.A. in the field. However, I do not like sociology as much as I love math. I can probably graduate with a M.A. in sociology in about 3 years (as a part-time student). However, if I choose to study mathematics, it would take me much longer to reach my goal since I do NOT have a degree in math. So, why a math degree? I want to teach math at the college level OUTSIDE the NYC area. All NYC professors, to my understanding, must have a doctorate degree in their field of expertise in order to gain full-time professor status. I know there are states in America that would welcome me as a college professor of mathematics without having a doctorate degree but where? Where are we going with this e-mail? I am 42 years old. I work two dead-end, part-time jobs with no benefits, no dental/medical, no 401k plan, no vacation, no retirement plan of any kind, etc. I am TIRED of struggling. I am a man with a vision. I know that God has blessed me with the ability to comprehend math beyond the average student. In fact, I volunteer my time as an online high school math tutor. I help students across the USA through various math forums. I receive letters from students thanking me for explaining math at their level. I feel a RUSH inside whenever I sit in front of my computer to answer math questions and helping students via a large variety of math forums. I don't know what to do. I am 42 years old and extremely tired of struggling in two dead-end jobs. What do I do for a living? I work as a substitute teacher (more like baby-sitting) for grades 6-12. The sub teacher job sucks BIG TIME because of the reasons mentioned above and also because it is per diem. In addition, sub teachers do NOT have the summer off with pay like regular teachers. So, summer time is very stressfull for sub teachers in terms of paying the rent on time, living a comfortable life, etc. My second job is a weekend job. I work as a security guard on SAT/SUN from 12am to 8am at $11.50 per hour for 16 hours. The guard job is supplemental income and nothing more. Do you see my point? I graduate from NYC Technical College in 1990, from Lehman College in 1994 BUT have been struggling ever since leaving the campus life. I can't continue to live this way. What advice can you give to me? I am desperately searching for someone who'll guide my feet in the right direction? Should I take the more practical road of earning an M.A. in Sociology since I have a B.A. in the field OR should return to the undergraduate level of study to earn a B.A. in Mathematics? What do you say? Before replying, keep in mind that I sincerely have a passion for math and NOT for sociology. I will wait for your reply. Thank you so much for taking time out to read my note. Sincerely, mathland
What is the highest degree you can get in engineering? I'm trying to get into NASA and since i don't want to get a Mathematics or Biological Science, I want to know 3 things. 1: What is the highest degree you can get in engineering ( like master's, bachelor's doctorate,Ph.D. ( I'm just starting the college search stuff, so I don't know the scale of degrees. ) 2: What is the highest degree you can get in Physical Science. ( Again i'm new to this stuff, and I looked online and it said degrees in different subjects aren't the same but if they are, don't answer #2 ) and 3: What is a good college ( preferably in Minnesota ) that offers these degrees in these 2 subjects. It said that the requirement to be a Commander/Pilot of a astronaut shuttle mission or ISS mission, you need at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, biological science, or mathematics.

Which college would you suggest? I want to pursue a B.S. in mathematics, but because of my career situation, I will have to go to school online. I know that is not a common major for an online degree, but if you have any experience or knowlegde with this, let me know what you think!
What job can i get related to my studies.? I have bachelor's degree in Mathematics (applied and computational) and Master's degree in Algorithm, Logic and Computation. Most of my graduate courses were such us Algorithms and Complexity (greedy, dynamic programming, scheduling, online alg, randomized, ect), game theory, cryprography, Logic, computational math ect..
Why, after being out of high school for 16 years, do online colleges expect you to just know algebra? I am enrolled in a bachelor's degree program at a very reputable online college and until this term, I have been a 4.0 honor student on the dean's list. This term, however, I have been enrolled in a Survey of Mathematics class and my GPA has hit rock bottom. What gives? After being out of high school for 16 years, how can they expect you to just remember how to solve algebraic equations? Honestly, with a show of hands, how many of you have EVER used algebra in your daily life? Engineers, math professors, doctors, maybe - but the average Joe? No way. Not that I ever want to be average, but let's face it, in America today, being average is the norm. Anyway...why can't these colleges offer a remedial or refresher course for people who have been out of school for YEARS? They're charging me an arm, a leg, AND my first born for this education. It would seem to me that they would give you a leg up if you need it. If you looked at my transcripts, you would think I was a fabulous student who devoted her life to higher education and then - her dog died, and she was so depressed she could barely eek by. I'm LIVID that my GPA, not to mention my self-esteem has so grossly suffered this mental trauma.
What is a legitimate online tutor or teacher job? I'm looking for an online tutor or teacher job. I have a Degree in Engineering, but I was looking to teach any type of Mathematics. Basically, Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Integral Calculus. I would be willing to tutor Engineering subjects, mainly mechanical, such as strength of materials or engineering design. Also, teaching English, public speaking, or even elementary Spanish. If anyone knows of any companies or websites that hire tutors and/or teachers that teach these subjects to work for them online through the internet, please let me know. Thanks!!
Fake degrees - surely they don't work?!? A close friend of mine has just secured himself a cushty job with a degree he bough online. For a not too princely sum he now has a very authentic looking degree certificate complete with a mock "breakdown" of his individual scores he got throughout it. I'm nearing completion of my degree in Mathematics, after years of bloody hard work and sacrifice. Surely, when you apply for a job that requires a degree there is a way they check the degree to make sure it's authentic, via some kind of record checking or the kind? If not, what the hell have I been doing for the last six years of my life since I left school?!
How Long Does It Take to Get Real Degree, Taking Real Courses While On Active Duty? OK, so I'll be on Army active duty as an infantryman for at least the next three years. However, my dream is to be involved somehow with evolutionary biology. It would be best if I could get a bachelors degree in one of the sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, etc), or Mathematics so that I would be prepard for graduate school in biology. I don't want to take online courses. I need to take courses where I can get a recommendation from professors. But, say I were to major in Mathematics. How long would this take? How many years would it take for me to complete, say, 20 courses? Thanks
Is it practical to attempt self-study of calculus, discrete mathematics, logic set...? ...theory, how to do proofs by induction Along with my current education I want to pursue Info Tech degree. While residency requirement exists in the program I am contemplating, most of it can be accomplished on line but not without meeting the academic prerequisites in mathematics. Since I work a day job that stretches into the evenings, and (more often than not) even some weekends I would like to embark upon a self study program to learn the basics of first year calculus, discrete mathematics, logic set theory, and how to do proofs by induction. An honest assessment of my math skills is that they are mediocre at best - I feel comfortable with algebra fundamentals. Yet, I am disciplined & have confidence in my abilities to learn just about anything I set my mind to. Is it really that difficult to self-study such subjects to a "proficient" level or am I just "out there". Any recommendations on best path to take? Best self study resources? Is online instruction practical?
Harvard University online courses? Has anyone taken Harvard University's online courses? I'm looking to go into Psychology and eventually get me degree, they look impressive, but I do have a question about the course. When taking any course their they give you an option of a course. In the Fall they are having an Abnormal Psychology class. Once I take this through the semester is this the only class I have? Or do I have basic courses to like English, Mathematics, etc or is it just the one course? In the next semester do I have to choose my next subject in Psychology and continue same as before?
How Long Would It Take to Get a Biology Degree on Active Duty? Would it take like 8 years or something? I already have a B.A. in Political Science but want to go back to school and get a degree in Biology. I wouldn't need to take anything like English 101 - it would just be the Biology courses and some of the required Mathematics courses. With this in mind how long do you think we're talking here? All total I'm talking about 20 different classes (15 Bio courses, and then about 5 Math courses). How long would this take? Keep in mind I'm talking about in-class courses, not online courses? I'm in the infantry (11X) by the way. I'm not trying to get the degree because I'm trying to make money, but because I think this might be the path I want to take with my life. Maybe who knows. Thanks everyone.

Which online M.Ed for current Elementary Teacher? I am not interested in administration at this time. In the future??? Who knows? I have a non-education undergrad degree (Social Work) and would like my Masters to relate to teaching K-6 all subjects or with a focus on Reading, Science or Math. I am in my 2nd year of teaching at a student centered, hands-on non-traditional charter school. I also am a mom with 4 kids (college sophomore to kindergarten!) Cost is important because I am paying for this out of pocket. The degree will result in a small increase in pay $2-3000 annually. I am looking at the following colleges for affordablilty and the content. Lamar University (Texas) http://www.academicpartnership.com/lamar/edu_tuition.asp $4950 for M.Ed in Educ Leadership or Educ Technology Leadership Drury University (Missouri) M.Ed. with Emphasis in Instructional Mathematics K-8 @ $275/credit hr. http://www.drury.edu/multinl/story.cfm?ID=13236&NLID=269 Arkansas State University - Jonesboro. $4950 for an M.S.Ed. Education Theory and Practice. http://www.astate.edu/academicpartnerships/edu_mse_theory_practice.asp Chadron State College $632.50 per class (3 credits) for a MA.E. in Mathematics. http://www.csc.edu/graduate/degree/sciencemath.csc Any experience with any of these programs? Anyone want to start their masters with me?
Which is easier? College Algebra or Finite Mathematics? Hey all, I am one Math class shy of two B.S. degrees, and I need to know which one to take. The thing is, I REALLY hate math, and math REALLY hates me. Here are the two class descriptions. College Algebra - "Study of algebraic concepts including linear and quadratic equations, inequalities and systems; polynomials, rational, exponential and logarithmic functions in the natural and social sciences with emphasis on their numerical, graphical, and algebraic properties and their applications. Introduction to summation notation, sequences, and series." Finite Math - "This course presents a variety of applications of algebra to real-world problems and includes an introduction to set theory, probability, and statistics. Topics include linear functions, systems of linear equations and inequalities, matrices, linear programming, and the mathematics of finance. " They are both online, both 8 weeks, both taught by the same professor. Thanks for all the input!
I can't decide on a major. Any help or tips? I have just completed my first year of college and have already changed my major 3 times. I absolutely love music for I have been a musician since I was 11 and I am now 20. As of now I am a Music Industry major and a Mathematics Minor. Here's the predicament: My girlfriend and I want to move to the UK after we get married in about a year. My university offers a few online Bachelor's degrees, but not Music industry, nor mathematics. If we moved then, her bachelor's degree and our combined salaries could get us the HSMP visa, but I would have to drop my Music Industry major and Math minor to settle with a computer science major and most likely a political science minor to get my online degree. Here's the reason I think I may change to that anyways: J-O-B-S. I've already searched for jobs under music industry and radio broadcasting in both the UK and the US, and I have pretty much come up empty handed. There are none. This has convinced me to consider changing my major to CS and my minor to Political Science or something similar. I don't really want to because my dream has always been to get out of college and go to work for a recording company as a producer or sound engineer. It sucks, but jobs are scarce, and I may be forced to change my major just to find a job in the future. I can always change it, work, suffer, and then go home to my wife, guitar, drums, recording equipment, and band and live the life I want out of work (lol). Anyways, any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Good enough for an application? I am filling out an application online and there is a question, that is required, that states: what is your greatest proffesional sucess? Is it okay that I put: My greatest professional success will be returning to East Tennessee State University in the fall of 2008 and completing a degree in Mathematics and continuing to thrive in a company where my skills and knowledge will help both myself and the company achieve excellence.
Best way to get a programming career started? I recently graduated from university with a mathematics degree. I've now decided that I would really like a career in computer programming. I have taught myself the basics of computer programming in the past (mainly visual basic and javascript) but certainly don't have enough knowledge to get a job in this field. I basically want to know what my best route would be to end up as a programming professional (without spending ridiculous amount of money on courses or another degree). I have seen companies such as CompuTeach advertised on TV but after reading a few reviews of these on ciao.co.uk I have been discouraged from going down this route. Several reviews suggested that it's possible to teach yourself the material and pay for the exams yourself rather than paying the £1679 per year that Computeach wanted. If this is the case then can somebody advise me as to which exams would be the most worthwhile. And where I can find the best materials to teach myself what I need (whether it be materials online or books) I also thought that some companies might offer some sort of trainee scheme but I have not found anything like this so far. If anyone is aware of any companies that offer this then please let me know. As far as I am aware, the best programming language to have knowledge of (as far as jobs are concerned) is C++ so I am really looking to get a qualification in this...but again...let me know if this information is incorrect. Really looking forward to reading answers for this
How Legit Are Online Courses? I'm on active duty in Army infantry and don't usually have the option of taking classes at an actual school. My dream is to do something involving evolutionary biology - hopefully at least be able to pursue this path in graduate school sometime down the road. I'd like to be able to major in a science like Biology but since those degrees require alot of lab work I don't think I'll able to do go this route since I'm in the Army and am constantly training, working in the daytime, deploying overseas, etc. I'm thinking Mathematics would be the best route to go. I'd have to take alot of my courses online though. My question is how respectable are these online courses? If I apply to graduate school is someone just going to look at my transcrips, see a bunch of online courses, and promptly throw my application in the trash bin? Also, how rigorous are these courses? If I took Calculus I online would I be prepared to take Calculus II or Calculus III in a real classroom? Thanks
Law school admission.? I have a GPA of 2.7. I studied a lot of mathematics a topic I tried hard with but am not naturally good at. I feel I have strengths that could be better used in law. I am working for a government organization and have a good salary so I am not about to quit my job just yet. I am planning on doing a second degree by ONLINE or NIGHT SCHOOL in english/history so that I can pump out the grades and get into a good school. Also to have good grades to show an employer. What do you think ? I am 25 right now. Three years for second degree, three years for law school. Making me 31 years old.
Any computer science or IT majors out there? Well heres my problem: Im a CS major right now and im about half way through it. After taking discreet mathematics it has my reconsidering continuing CS as a major. I guess its the math that i dont see myself enjoying and it got me thinking of switching over to a IT degree. Looking online the earnings between the two are about similar.... My question to the CS and IT majors out there is could you describe what you do daily and what does it include? Im not interested in proving theorys and all that follows that. Im mostly interested in some programming, configuring networks etc....
Should I forgive or punish my past lover for hacking into my email? There used to be a guy 10 years back who really liked me a lot but somehow could not manage to tell me. Due to circumstances he moved to a different state. For a brief while we exchanged emails and chatted online. But when he told me that he fell in love with me, I was already married by then. I did not ever tell him that I am married and I just shut him out by never answering his emails or IM's. He got the message that he has to face the hurt for his earlier shyness. He recently graduated with bachelor degree in mathematics and emailed me again asking that if I am single, would I consider marrying him. I again did not reply. Surprisingly yesterday he hacked into my yahoo email account, read my inbox and sent folder messages and from there he discovered that I am married now. After that he sent me an email expressing deep regret of hacking and apologized. He told me to change password and assured me that he would never commit such an act again. He also said that I should have told him of my marriage and by not doing that I caused him further hurt. He also said that from now on he has totally given up on me and will never ever try to correspond with me and move on. Should i now punish him by reporting him that he hacked into my email account? The punishment will teach him a serious lesson. Or should I forgive and forget and change password? He had given me his email password 2 years back. But I never went into it.
Network security course? Can anyone give me a general idea of the of the mathematics involved in a network security degree course(3yrs)? I tried searching online but couldn't find anything. I even contacted some university offices, but they had no idea. The first year for courses in most universities have 'general engineering mathematics' as a subject.... what does that include? Thanks in advance. Also is a career in network security stable?
Overeducated and still don't know what to do with life...any suggestions? I am 28 and single and have an extensive educational background. I studied for an MBA online in Global Technology Management and earned a MS in Teaching Mathematics. I also have a BS in Computer Science. Suprisingly, I still don't know what to do in life. I feel very stupid and so sad that I still don't know what to do after all of these degrees. I have taught HS for the last 3 yrs (as my first real job) while earning the MS in Teaching Math and I disliked teaching. I've dealt with unruly kids, backbiting & lying administrators and pressure to pass on kids with poor skills. I quit my job this summer. I have tried working going back to using my CS undergrad degree but I am not up to date with skills and have no experience. In fact, I tried getting a job when I graduated college in 2003 and didn't have luck. I'm afraid to work in corporate America (after the politics I've dealt with in the school I've worked in. It is like I'm no longer interested in the fields I've studied. I feel that I have a very introverted person and not cut out for teaching. Nor am I cut out for the backbiting-ness, lying and unethicalness in a corporate job. Sometimes I regret studying my fields and wish that I was a liberal arts major to give me an opportunity to be a bit more creative, interesting, and fulfilling. At other times, I was thinking of pursing a medical researcher so that I can be left alone to do a job that benefits society. (Since I like school so much) I’m thinking of returning back to school and doing something completely different. I have many loans but I will find a way to pay for them. Am I nuts for pursing this amount of education at this point? I know it seems like I'm all over the place...but I'm very sad and frustrated at this point. :( TOWANDA I appreciate your advice but I don't have to deal with office politics by being a habitual liar and backstabber. I know there are negative aspects of jobs. I'm good at dealing with customers and clientele whether angry or not. But to get blatantly disrespected and screamed at in front of children like I did in my prior career field. There are also careers that I don't have to conflict my morals and I'm not running away from anything. Your assessment about me not wanting to work is totally wrong. I've had many ideas of dream jobs but I came to a point where I have a lot of education and it may seems really strange to switch to something different. I was influenced by mom to pursue these degrees and I've had no father in my life. I had to stick up for myself until this point. Plus I have had strikes against me as well. Thanks to all the others who have been so very helpful in my search of a career field and has understood my situation. I truly appreciate it!
URGENT LIFE OR DEATH QUESTION!? Sorry but it's the only way i could get people to answer this question. P.S It said that the requirement to be a Commander/Pilot of a astronaut shuttle mission or ISS mission, you need at least a bachelor's degree in engineering, physical science, biological science, or mathematics.
Can I study for a Mathematics degree without Further Maths AS? I'm about to start studying for my AS levels in September. Our school has a 'blocks' system (each block containing a list of subjects, and you can only pick one from each block.) Going with the allowed combinations, I chose Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. Since choosing, I have been researching Universities and the requirements for Mathematics degrees online. Some of my favourite universities, such as Durham, say that you require at least AS Further Mathematics, preferably the full A level. My school do run Further Maths, but I cannot study it as I am doing Physics, and I do not wish to change, seeing as I also have a keen interest in Physics. I was wondering if anyone could give me any more information, or advice, on what would be best for me to do, and whether I would still be able to do a mathematics degree. (It's likely my completed A levels would be in mathematics, physics, and chemistry.) Thanks in advance for any help.
Question For Math Teachers/Majors? Dear Math Teachers/Majors: I was born in the Dominican Republic but raised in New York City.

Difficulty finding a job (revised)? I had a bit of a rant on here a few minutes ago saying I couldn't find a job and someone quite rightly pointed out I hadn't listed any qualifications / experience, so here goes; 9 GCSE's (A - C, including English, Maths Double Award Science) A Levels (Maths, Applied Maths, Physics, Psychology) Further (Two years of MPhys Theoretical Physics degree, am currently completing BSc in Mathematics part time via distance learning) Have experience in Sales, Customer Service, Office work, Admin, Data Entry and Purchase Ledger. I've been going for run-of-the-mill basic jobs (Admin etc) to see me over until I finish my studies, no-one wants to know. I'm looking to move to Birmingham where I assume there will be more job choice (or at least some), but still need work in the meantime (in Kidderminster, Worcestershire area). Exhausted all online sites, Job Centre yields nothing, I have simply run out of ideas.
MBA Programs Help Please? I want to do an MBA. I have a couple of questions: 1) Due to my freshman/softmore years in college and my lack of ANY capability in mathematics type courses, I know that I cannot get into a Harvard, for example. So, I've been looking at some lesser-known, yet still fully accredited (by the US Dept of Education) schools. Will these still be acceptable to an employer? 2) Are online MBA programs acceptable? I don't want people to think I got a diploma mill degree.

What sort of careers should I be looking at? Hello everyone! Hope you're having a good start to a long Easter weekend. I'm just wondering what careers I could be looking at? I'm in grade 11 at school, and very technology based. For a career, I'm looking at something that involves sitting at a desk or whatever, doing my own thing and not overly working with people. Working in a team is great, and obviously any job involves that, I'm just talking about something that doesn't involve working with others all the time. I'd like something that I could do with technical knowledge and not just doing the same thing all the time. I've thought about a few things, in particular a software engineer or a mathematician. My favourite subjects at school are IPT (web development, SQL), Maths (highest level) and Physics. Anything involving these areas I'd be happy to do. Is there anything that suits this other than various kinds of programmers? And if I did a dual Bachelor of IT and Bachelor of Mathematics in Software Engineering would it qualify me to the equivalent of a Computer Science degree? Thanks in advance, I'd like to have a few more options than what I can see. I took online test, I got 0 in Creative, 0 in People, 0 in Helping, 0 in Practical, 11 in Technical and 4 in Administrative, which seems just about right. Hope you have a great Easter!
Higher pay, boring job or a lower pay, more fulfilling job? I'm debating on what to do as far as my job/career. I plan on going to school part-time to study art while working. I am in no rush to "hurry and get my degree". I will earn it through hard work and patience. My main concern right now is a job that pays well and I can function independently. The job I have right now is the same old thing but I earn $10 an hour as a cashier. I'm only part-time at this job and its in the retail industry so you can imagine how inflexible they are about "other obligations". Also, my income is very unreliable. One month I'll earn $1000+, the next I'll earn $800 or less. Switching to full-time would require working 45+ hours a week, on my feet, and with my weakness in mathematics it's not right for me. I'm seriously considering switching careers to a child care worker. I have to drop $100+ for training and certification online. I have a lot of unconditional love and affection to give and want to pursue a bigger purpose in life. The only downside is the starting pay is $7.25(minimum wage in my state) an hour, even after certification. I'll be working full-time, obviously. I will take a class or two on Saturdays, unless the company I work for is understanding of my desire to pursue a Bachelors degree in Fine Art & Education. I know if I worked in this industry I'd have a steady income. I love children, and I feel like this career path is calling me (I've even had dreams about being a mentor to another child). The only negative is the pay, having to take money out for training and certification, and thrice (three times) as much responsibility as a retail or customer service job (just not financially or money wise.) What would you do in my situation?
i would like to get my bachelor degree of mathematics? what is the cheapest online school "credited"
Could you suggest a Post Graduate Course in IT/Computing (Indian University) which I could do entirely online? I would like to know whether there is any Recognised Post Graduate Course in IT/Computing (Indian University) which I could do entirely online. I have a B.Sc Physics Degree with Statistics and Mathematics plus a Post Graduate Diploma in Computer Applications (1 Yr) from a recognised govt. institution. I have 10+ years experience in IT & I am currently working abroad in IT sector. I would not be able to attend classes/labs regularly. But might be able to come once per year to write the exams.
Have you read the book "Einstein and The buddha: The Parallel Saying" ? This remarkable book contains over 120 sayings from the founders of modern physics paired with parallel sayings from the seminal works of Buddhist, Hindu and Taoist contemplatives. Einstein and Buddha is a fascinating collection of quotes that challenges us to think deeper about the relationship between modern physics and mystical insight. Although these two ways of understanding and investigating reality have significant differences, the parallels suggest that they share a mysterious and profound connection. The parallel sayings are organized by theme and touch upon the nature of matter and energy, the relationship between subject and object, the understanding of time and space, the importance of direct experience, the role of paradox and contradiction in our understanding, the limits of language in describing reality, and the interdependence of all created things. Each section is accompanied by a brief introduction to how these concepts relate to the scientific and spiritual ways of knowing. On each page is an insightful quote from an eminent physicist such as Albert Einstein, Niels Bohr, Erwin Schrödinger, Werner Heisenberg, or David Bohm, together with a surprisingly similar statement from a renown authority of Eastern religion such as the Buddha, Chaung Tzu, the Upanishads, D. T. Suzuki, or the Dalai Lama. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sample parallels from the book EINSTEIN BUDDHA According to general relativity, the concept of space detached from any physical content does not exist. -Einstein If there is only empty space, with no suns nor planets in it, then space loses its substantiality. -Buddha Physical concepts are free creations of the human mind, and are not, however it may seem, uniquely determined by the external world. -Einstein All such notions as causation, succession, atoms, primary elements...are all figments of the imagination and manifestations of the mind. -Buddha Time and again the passion for understanding has led to the illusion that man is able to comprehend the objective world rationally by pure thought without any empirical foundations—in short, by metaphysics. -Einstein By becoming attached to names and forms, not realising that they have no more basis than the activities of the mind itself, error rises…and the way to emancipation is blocked. -Buddha In our thinking...we attribute to this concept of the bodily object a significance, which is to high degree independent of the sense impression which originally gives rise to it. This is what we mean when we attribute to the bodily object "a real existence." ...By means of such concepts and mental relations between them, we are able to orient ourselves in the labyrinth of sense impressions. These notions and relations...appear to us as stronger and more unalterable than the individual sense experience itself, the character of which as anything other than the result of an illusion or hallucination is never completely guaranteed. -Einstein I teach that the multitudinousness of objects have no reality in themselves but are only seen of the mind and, therefore, are of the nature of maya and a dream. ...It is true that in one sense they are seen and discriminated by the senses as individualized objects; but in another sense, because of the absence of any characteristic marks of self-nature, they are not seen but are only imagined. In one sense they are graspable, but in another sense, they are not graspable. -Buddha The belief in an external world independent of the perceiving subject is the basis of all natural science. Since, however, sense perception only gives information of this external world or of "physical reality" indirectly, we can only grasp the latter by speculative means. It follows from this that our notions of physical reality can never be final. We must always be ready to change these notions—that is to say, the axiomatic basis of physics—in order to do justice to perceived facts in the most perfect way logically. -Einstein While the Tathagata, in his teaching, constantly makes use of conceptions and ideas about them, disciples should keep in mind the unreality of all such conceptions and ideas. They should recall that the Tathagata, in making use of them in explaining the Dharma always uses them in the semblance of a raft that is of use only to cross a river. As the raft is of no further use after the river is crossed, it should be discarded. So these arbitrary conceptions of things and about things should be wholly given up as one attains enlightenment. -Buddha -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- About the Author Thomas J. I need help to get into a computer course in england university? I like to do Computer Hardware & Software Engineering BEng Honours degree Entry requirements 5 GCSEs at grade A-C and 200 Tariff points from 2 or more 6-unit awards including Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Design & Technology or equivalent qualifications. I just have btec first diploma in arts and B and 5 E in GCSE, i've had job that invole computer recycle for 1yr. but am 25yr n i want a degree in computers so i can get a better job. can anyone give me advice that doesn't invole online course?
Higher Education entry requirements, help please. ? Next year it is my intention to study entering into Higher Education and i hope to leave Sixth Form with 200 to hopefully 220 UCAS points. I don't want to study any course related to Mathematics and the courses which i am interested in do not include (as far as i can determine) the need for maths. Whilst looking through the University prospectuses online, i notice that they all seem to stipulate.... For Undergraduates wishing to study for a BSc (Hons) degree... 4 or 5 GCSE's at grade C or above (this i am absolutely fine with as i have above this) But then i notice..... "Including MATHS and English." As i had a B grade for GCSE English i have no problems there, but when it comes to Maths i have a D grade... Will this affect my chances of being accepted onto a University course, or will the University as a general rule of thumb make an "allowance" .... Help me here please, thanks. Even if i have a Key Skills level 3 in Application of Number?
Is it reall irrelevant where I go to school to be an actuary? It's come time for me to make a decision on where to go to college and I'm stuck. Everything I've read online has said that it matters very little where I go to college since potential employers will use my exam results to determine if I'm qualified. I got accepted into the Honors College at Cleveland State and the scholarship for that covers tuition, books, parking, and a good chunk of room and board. Actuarial Science is not an offered major there but they have an actuarial track within their Mathematics major. My other choice (there are others but I'm pretty much set on one of these two) is Otterbein College. It's a nice school (certainly better than CSU) and actually offers a degree in Actuarial Science but I will end up having to pay around 80 grand in student loans when I get out. My thinking is that graduating from the Honors College and the extra $80 grand in my pocket should be enough to offset any difference between the two. Or not. I'm not sure (hence the question).
LOJBAN the ultra logical language.? Have you ever heard about Lojban. It's a constructed language invented with the intent to make a language with stead fast rules which are firmly based on the principals of logic and mathematics. Lojban eliminates ambiguity. Though it is possible to be ambiguous IF desired. It apparently provides a vocabulary which is extendable and can provide a wider range of expression than ever imagined in any language. Yes I know that esperanto is also a great constructed language and has many followers. Yet esperanto contains a degree of sexism. It can only be expected considering the language was invented 2 centuries ago. Lojban is apparently so unbiased that even objects are applicable to the same rules as humans. So here it is. As you can tell, I'm super ultra keen to learn this language (and possibly esperanto as well. But that's another story). but I was hoping to find a small group of people to compare notes and progress with. We would be learning from free information online. If you're interested in knowing more about Lojban, here's the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lojban and here is the site: http://www.lojban.org/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=Home+Page&bl the site has a course on it which would probably be the main sours of information. if you reply to this, apparently you can also e-mail me. i hope to hear from you.
First steps into life (career, money in the meantime, where to live, etc)? So I'm 18, soon to be 19 in March. I'm a home schooled senior this year and quite frankly.. I have no idea what I'm going to do when I graduate. Problem 1: Career. I used to want to go into photography, but with the economy today, college seems almost impossible to pay for. And I'm starting to wonder if photography is my true calling, let alone a stable calling. As much as I would love to have a college degree, being in student loan debt for years is not very appealing. I want something that doesn't require very many years of education and I can still make a stable income without having to depend on another person. What I want in a career is something that I could maybe do at home or a job that does not deal with a large amount of people and stress? I have what some people refer to as social anxiety/stress, and sometimes it's hard to do something that really puts me.. out there and on the spot. I also can't handle stress too well, so I don't think being a surgeon would suit me. I'm a really creative person, but that also means mathematics and long boring paperwork aren't exactly my forte. Problem 2: Money for the meantime? My goal is to be at least on my own two feet by the time I'm 20. If I'm going to make that happen, I need to start saving money. Now. Again, because of my anxiety and stress, it's really hard for me to find a job like most teens out there. Is there a job out there that I don't know about that's behind the curtain like? Or maybe a hobby that's easy to learn that I can turn into money? I know people will post about doing online surveys and all that junk, but I don't feel like filling my computer with spyware and wasting my time on something I might not even get paid for in return. Some of the hobbies I have now are graphic design, photography, gaming (I don't know, figured it was worth throwing in there. Never know what's out there.), I'm really computer tech savvy, and I'm willing to learn. I know this is a huge wall of text, but I figured I'd get a more accurate answer if you guys had all the info. I just want to know what my options are. Thanks so much in advance!
How can I stop feeling sorry for myself? This isn't a "pity me" question or anything - I also realize that by posting this on a public forum, I run the risk of someone saying something that'll make me feel even worse, but I would like opinions from the general public. Here goes - I currently have a BA in German studies, but it's totally useless. No luck at all from employers, and even if a company did need a German speaker, they would just hire a native speaker who'd be willing to work for less. Recently, though, I discovered my true life passion - mathematics. I really am obsessed with calculus, vectors, matrices, functions, equations, etc. So obsessed to the point of being called "weird". Now, if I'd majored in math, I'd have a job teaching math (I can forget teaching German), a townhouse, maybe a new car, I'd be dating girls I meet online, etc. Not that my life would be "perfect", but it'd be great, much better than the life I have now. I'd like to get a Master's in math, but most depts. won't even consider my application unless I've taken a certain amount of undergrad math, and I only have three semesters of calculus (calc I, II, and multivariable calc). I guess I'd have to get a second bachelor's degree in math and then work my way up to a Master's, but I'm already having nightmares (sometimes literally!) about the huge debt from that. How can I stop feeling sorry for myself, knowing that had I majored in math, I'd have a much better life right now?
What do you think about a math book with only examples ? I've asked this question in the mathematics section, and got some positive feedback. I would like to ask this to the people in the higher education section. Students in my past algebra classes (college level) have informed me that the textbooks do not have enough examples and lack detail. (I don't want to go into the details of this, but it's mainly to reduce the cost of the book). I am currently working on an example book just for ALGEBRA. The purpose of this book is to provide a variety of examples for students. I do plan on marketing this book for teachers, students as well home-schoolers. There will be detailed examples at different degrees of difficulty. It will also contain practice problems, with the solutions online. In addition, a few of the examples will require thought process, and will not be found in any other textbooks. It will also contain real life application problems that use algebra, unlike those train problems. This will give students an interesting perspective on algebra. I realize there are some books out there such as Schaum's outlines or Cliff Notes, but they usually only contain simple examples that you can find in any math book. I am not recommending students learn algebra from this book. It should not be mistaken for a textbook, but rather an example book to be used along with the required textbook. I would like to hear from some of you and what you think. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.
MBA Programs Help Please? MBA Programs Help Please? I want to do an MBA. I have a couple of questions: 1) Due to my freshman/softmore years in college and my lack of ANY capability in mathematics type courses, I know that I cannot get into a Harvard, for example. So, I've been looking at some lesser-known, yet still fully accredited (by the US Dept of Education) schools. Will these still be acceptable to an employer? 2) Are online MBA programs acceptable? I don't want people to think I got a diploma mill degree.
Is it possible to get a PhD at Princeton? I have a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science with a 4.0 GPA from the University of South Carolina. I'm currently working on my MBA online from IE Buisness school and I am hoping to start my Masters in Computer Science (not sure where). If I kept a 4.0 GPA in both of my masters degrees would I be able to get a PhD in math at Princeton? My SAT score is 2300, I have studied abroad, and I have many EC's with a focus. What would my chances be? Am I completely stupid for even thinking it would happen?
Online Masters Programs? What universities, if any, offer an online program to get your Masters degree in Mathematics? I know there are some that do and I am sure there are quite a few of them being that people have full time jobs that are paying for their Master's degrees. I am looking for real universities, not online colleges.
Could someone tell me more about the online B.S in Applied Mathematics from Empire State College, SUNY.? Hi, I hoped that those student who are currently studying online/distance learning in B.S of applied Mathematics from Empire State College, Suny can assist me in this as in future I am planing to study this degree. I would like to find out what are the modules/ subject yours are covering throughout the course before you can graduate with the degree. Is the topic more general or covered certain area like engineering, financial etc. Also do America degree like Empire State college ranked the degree according to 1st class, 2st class honour or like I heard is based on overall GPA Point, and if you failed, you are not allowed to graduate with this bachelor degree. Next if I choose to study this degree online, how is the examination conduct, if it is online, do we answer MCQ question only or is that some other format like just submit thesis will do? and how do we "answer" maths question ( like how to type in equation and formula etc) and is it an "open" book examination? Finally for those who are going to graduate, is it possible that your can share all the lecture notes or tutorial notes from B.S in Applied Mathematics if possible by telling me any web link from Empire State college or kindly email me : yishun1981@yahoo.com.sg.(No spam please!) Would really appreciate, otherwise if it is not convenience, kindly ignore this part. Thank you. In future I hope to be in Empire State college family.Cheer
